Intro to Anthropology

Introductory Undergraduate

This course is an introduction to the four fields of Anthropology: cultural anthropology, archaeology, linguistics and biological anthropology.

Assessments in this course include:

• Daily submissions of Clear and Muddy topics which help let me know what topics have sunk in and which we need to spend more time on;

• Final project on a topic of your choice that can be in a format of your choice - essay, sculpture, poem, painting, rap, dance. Its up to you!

Intro to Biological Anthropology

Introductory Undergraduate

This course is an introduction to the field of Biological Anthropology which uses evolution, genetics, bones and even primates to better understand ourselves and how humans evolved.

Assessments in this course include:

• Regular in-class labs and lab reports;

• Lab portfolio with a selection of your best lab reports from the semester;

• Final project on a topic of your choice that can be in a format of your choice - essay, sculpture, poem, painting, rap, dance. Its up to you!

Primatology Research & Ethics

Undergraduate Upper Division

In this course we will explore all aspects of primate research from research to hypothesizing to data collection to budgeting. We will also think hard about the ethics of primate research and what kind of researchers we want to be.

Assessments in this course include:

• Annotated bibliography on a research topic and/or species of primate that interests you;

• Budget proposal;

• Research proposal incorporating the different assignments from the semester;

• Poster presentation or talk that summarizes your research proposal

Primate Cognition

Graduate Seminar

Primates are our closest living relative but how alike are we really? In this course we will read and discuss different topics related to primate cognition and the debate surrounding human’s uniqueness.

Assessments in this course include:

• Finding additional sources for the class to read based on the topic of the week;

• Leading the class in a discussion of the readings for the week;

• Final paper or research proposal based on a topic or area of research you find interesting and would like to learn more about
